Local Schools

Lafarge Dundas takes an active role in supporting our local schools, including the Greensville Elementary School Spencer Valley Elementary School and the Calvin Christian School. Lafarge hosts yearly tours of the sites so that students can see and understand the practical side of what they learn in their rocks and minerals classes. In fact, Lafarge employees go yearly to the classrooms at Greensville Public School to teach the students about aggregate use and environmental mitigation of the aggregate industry as part of the tour. Numerous universities and associations come through the site yearly to collect rocks and minerals as part of their curriculum.

Lafarge also helps out by making annual donations to the school fundraisers, providing in-kind materials for playgrounds, and donating towards improvement projects such as the new signage and landscaping at Greensville. In fact, in 2006, Lafarge contributed approximately $14,000 for new stage curtains at Spencer Valley Elementary School and new blinds at Greensville Public School.

During the summer of 2013, the Lafarge Dundas Quarry was once again helping out local schools - primarily with material donations for playgrounds. Two loads of peastone were donated to the Greensville Public School to restore the gravel for their swings and playground structures.

Additionally, the Lafarge Dundas Quarry was proud to help out with the Dundas Central Public School's project to transform their unusable playground due to drainage issues into a healthy, educational, environmental and multi-age community resource.
